SMS gateway
An Android phone turned into a gateway that sends texts from the company number and reports back what happened to them.
Bulk SMS services send from a foreign number or from a sender name nobody can reply to. Here the message goes out from the same number the customer already has saved — so the reply comes back where it should and the conversation carries on normally.
How does it work?
An ordinary Android phone with a SIM card sits in the office waiting for jobs. The sending system hands it the text and the number, the phone sends the message and reports whether it arrived. It can work through a cloud server or directly inside the company network.
The connection watchdog
The biggest problem with this kind of setup: the phone can quietly lose its link to the job queue and say nothing about it — the app is alive and the messages pile up. The watchdog keeps track of when anything last arrived and, after too long a silence, rebuilds the connection. The phone fixes itself instead of hanging off a cable by the computer.
What is on screen?
Connection state on the first screen, a list of sent and received messages, settings for intervals and limits, listening for incoming messages, and a call report — who rang back and how long the call lasted. Message content can be encrypted with a password.
