Marketplace platforms

A marketplace is not a shop with a few products; it is a site whose content is created by its users. It has to carry hundreds of thousands of listings, search across a dozen parameters, moderation and communication between strangers. I build these platforms from scratch, without off-the-shelf classifieds scripts that start limiting growth after a year.

An admin panel with listing and account moderation, categories with filters matched to the industry, verified user accounts, messaging, favourites, abuse reports, featured listings and payments. Plus search-friendly URLs and a sitemap that grows along with the number of listings.

Why not a ready-made script

Off-the-shelf scripts are cheap at the start and expensive later: they struggle with large volumes, dictate your URL structure, and every non-standard feature needs a workaround. Custom code means a new module joins a running platform without rebuilding the whole thing.

handlovo.com: almost 280,000 listings, over 140,000 accounts, 16 language versions, in-house shipping between users and recruitment with CVs. freshwall.pl: over 9,000 works by artists, 5,800 accounts and 33,000 images resized on the fly.
